"An Attitude of Excellence" pt. 4
May you receive more and more covenant grace and peace in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ the Anointed Savior!
To excel means to go beyond; to exceed; to surpass; to outdo in good qualities and praiseworthy, commendable deeds. Excellent means of great virtue or worth; distinguished for what is valuable. After what you have read about Daniel, you can see that he certainly fit this definition.
The bible says about Daniel that he had an excellent spirit. This excellence of spirit began with a decision to be loyal to God's laws despite the pressure to compromise. "But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself [by eating his portion of] the king's rich and dainty food or by [drinking the wine which he drank" (Daniel 1:8). It would have been very easy for Daniel and the other Israelites with him to eat the king's food. After all, it was the food specially prepared for the king of Babylon - and everyone around him was eating it.
But Daniel and his companions chose excellence and thereby distinguished themselves from all the others. You see, it was alright for the others to eat the king's food and drink the king's wine. They came from countries where they worshiped all kinds of false gods; they didn't serve the Lord God Jehovah, the Most High God. Therefore, they had low standards regarding their conduct and their diet. According to Jewish dietary laws, the king's food was unclean; Daniel and his companions were forbidden to eat it. But it was perfectly fine for the others to defile themselves with that unclean food; they served dirty, filthy gods.
When you have an attitude of excellence about yourself, it doesn't matter what everyone else is doing. You have established in your heart that God's thoughts are your thoughts, His words are your words, and His ways are your ways. This is your standard of conduct from which you will not be moved. You are not influenced by what is common or popular if it doesn't come up to the standards of excellence that your heavenly Father has set for you. Your choice for excellence means you choose not to compromise.
Be on your guard! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong! Do everything in love! Jesus is returning soon!
Go with God (Love), and God (Love) will go with you!

- Oh, thanks so much. Lately, I really need that encouragement in all areas of my life, business my new baby etc. These few months since the birth of my son my life has been trying, but I have faith and I know things will turn around. I tip my hat off to you, your kids must keep you busy. I really need to focus and get my life in order so I can achieve the goals I set out to achieve. It feels like I will never get my business started, it always seems like there is somthing holding me back. Thanks again for those uplifting words.
