Yes, we have them tested through a private agency that is not affilitated with the public school system. My eldest has tested above grade average for the past 3 years. There are so many different methods when it comes to homeschooling. Check out this book "Morning by Morning: How We Home-Schooled Our African-American Sons to the Ivy League
by Paula Penn-Nabrit" This is an excellent book and she also has a website. Thank you:) Yes we do plan on homeschooling through high school. We have created out own curriculum. My homeschooling is structured, yet ecclectic. I create a lot of unit studies and cross curricular activities so that all of my children can participate at their own level. My 8 year old is currently working on a 3rd/4th grade level. My 5 year old son is currently learning how to read and my 4 year old daughter is working on kindergarden math. We homeschool all year round and have what I call moments of reflection throughout the year. During this time we are more relaxed and allow the children to work on things that interest them and we reflect on the lessons that were taught. This reflective moments usually last for about 2-3 weeks. Since we just had our 5th child in March we just got back into a more structured routine . It is a blesssing because we set the standard and are not constrained or confined. We are now expanding our family garden and adding medicinal herbs and we are also making our own tomato tree (like the 1 advertised on tv) this has become a great science project because for the little ones they are learning about plant growth, seeds, etc and my oldest is taking soil samples checking the Ph balance. Watching them grow and learn is an awesome experience.
